賛成する means to agree with or support an opinion, plan, or proposal. 賛成です (sansei desu) is a common way to say 'I agree.' 賛成多数 (sansei tasuu) means 'majority in favor.' The opposite is 反対する (hantai suru — to oppose). It is used in both formal discussions (meetings, votes) and daily conversations. Unlike 同意する (doui suru — to consent), which is more formal and legalistic, 賛成する is broadly used.
Common Mistakes
Learners sometimes say 賛成に instead of 賛成だ or 賛成です. The correct pattern is 〜に賛成する (to agree with ~). For example: その意見に賛成する. Don't confuse with 賛同する (sandou suru), which is more formal and implies endorsing a cause or movement.
