Nuance & Usage
結婚する means to get married. The noun form 結婚 (kekkon) is also used: 結婚式 (kekkon shiki — wedding ceremony), 結婚記念日 (kekkon kinenbi — wedding anniversary), 結婚生活 (kekkon seikatsu — married life). Two usages: X と結婚する (marry X, with a specific person) and 結婚している (be married, ongoing state). Note the difference: 結婚します (I will get married) vs 結婚しています (I am married).
Common Mistakes
A very common mistake: confusing 結婚します (I will get married / I'm getting married) with 結婚しています (I am currently married). This is the same -ている distinction as other verbs. Also: the particle with the partner is と (not に): ✓ 田中さんと結婚します ✗ 田中さんに結婚します. Don't confuse 結婚 (marriage) with 婚約 (kon'yaku — engagement) or 離婚 (rikon — divorce).
